Through its 2014 Program, The Jersey Surf Supports the Pay it Forward Foundation & Global Pay it Forward Movement

When the southern-New Jersey-based Jersey Surf World Class Drum Corps embarks on its annual 60-day summer tour throughout the United States this June, it intends to do more than provide entertainment to hundreds of thousands of marching music enthusiasts who will pack stadiums around the country to witness the spellbinding performances of Drum Corps International’s elite performance ensembles.

Through its 2014 performance repertoire entitled “Pay It Forward,” The Jersey Surf, comprised of 150 remarkable high school and college-aged performers, intends to convey a timely social message in a creative manner: the encouragement of individuals to take personal action to serve the greater good.

“Beyond the competition field and performance stage, we encourage our members to stand tall as leaders in their lives, in their schools and communities.” says Jersey Surf Executive Director Bob Jacobs. “This season’s musical and visual program gives us the opportunity to take the character education and leadership-by-example concepts and our ‘Share the Love’ organizational philosophy one step further, by illustrating the ‘Pay it Forward’ message through the unique artistic medium known as competitive drum corps.”

To further bolster the effort, the Jersey Surf organization is announcing several initiatives intended to extend the relevance of the campaign beyond the performance field; the first of which is a pledge of support to the Pay it Forward Foundation and its Global Pay it Forward Movement.

“Based on a very simple concept brought to life through the use of its iconic silicone bracelets and the novel written in 2000, the Pay it Forward Foundation has enlisted several million supporters in more than 130 countries around the world to show support of Pro-Kindness campaigns,” said Jacobs. “Our goal is to bring additional attention to the efforts of the foundation and to support them in spreading the word about the Pay it Forward movement to fans of marching music, along with their friends and families. We will accomplish this through a number of new initiatives and programs this season and beyond.”

“Pay it Forward is excited for 2014 and even more so when it comes to what Bob and the kids at Jersey Surf have planned for the Summer. We believe more people need to know about the Pay it Forward movement and to see how impactful simple acts of kindness can be on their day to day lives, and we appreciate Jersey Surf for helping us accomplish this goal,” said Charley Johnson, Head of the Global Pay it Forward Movement.
