Communications / Public Relations / Social Media / Marketing Interns
Develops journalistic and social media content for the official Jersey Surf website (www.JerseySurf.org), social media platforms, and various print publications. Content will be related to events in which the Surf participates, participating marching members, former marching members, families involved with the organization and other topics as assigned. Intern will have the opportunity to interview and report on people and events within the Drum Corps International realm while working under strict deadlines. Ideal candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as an interest and background in copy editing, photography and layout experience. Experience or course work in news writing & reporting and the various disciplines of marketing/communications is a plus. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world communications skills and to add significant weight to his/her clippings file and portfolio of published material. Intern will assist with the compilation of news clippings, serve in a supporting role with media inquiries and provide additional general assistance throughout the tour as needed.

Photography Intern
Acts as a photojournalist throughout the summer tour, at competitive events and other functions as assigned, including some studio work shooting merchandise products. Intern will have full media credentials and have the opportunity to work with Drum Corps International professional staff photographers. This intern will be responsible for cataloguing and keywording all images captured throughout the summer. Candidate should have a keen eye for sports-related photography and strong skills with digital SLR cameras and editing in Adobe Photoshop. Intern will be asked to produce photo galleries and audio/visual content for the Jersey Surf website (www.JerseySurf.org) and other print and digital media. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world photo journalistic skills and add significant weight to his/her portfolio of published material.

Video Production Intern
Creates and executes high-end video productions including digital effects, motion graphics and editing for Jersey Surf marketing communications. Intern will be involved with creative and pre-production, lighting, editing, as well as some aspects of coordination, planning and executing video shoots. Ideal candidate will have experience with Final Cut Pro or other non-linear editing software and will work in conjunction with other video shooters and producers while providing journalistic coverage of competitive events. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world video production skills & add significant weight to his/her portfolio reel.

Culinary Arts Interns
Interns will perform a variety of tasks in the culinary arts field including but not limited to: preparing foods for cooking; preparing meats and poultry; preparing salads, sandwiches, and beverages; and preparing bakery items. Individual will also apply fundamentals of menu planning, ordering, receiving, and storage. Fundamental knowledge of food service industry required such as knowledge of basic terminology in food service; identify standards of personal hygiene, sanitation, and safety; identify liquid and dry measures; identify ingredients used for cooking and baking; and the ability to read and follow a standard recipe.

Merchandise Intern
Assist the merchandise staff with the operation of the Jersey Surf’s merchandise store on-site at Drum Corps International and other events. Intern will gain experience in merchandise management, visual merchandising, web store management, financial planning, and product development and design. The Merchandise Intern will be responsible for the setup and teardown of the merchandise store, customer service, cash handling, and assist in the development of the product line. Applicant must be a self starter with the ability to work independently and manage customer service onsite solutions. Heavy lifting and some overnight van driving will be required (valid driver’s license required). Will be trained on ShopKeep POS system and will assist in daily reconciliations.

Music Business / Bus. Admin. / Tour Mgmt. / Accounting Interns
Assists corps administrative staff with daily management of the corporation while taking part in the over-the-road summer tour. Daily responsibilities will include problem-solving tasks, assisting in creation of daily schedules, financial recording, cash reconciliations, coordination of housing locations, trip routing, identification of local resources as necessary, miscellaneous errands and assisting where needed to ensure a seamless tour for the participants, instructional staff and volunteers. Ideal candidate will be friendly, have great interpersonal communication skills, will be able to think on his/her feet in sometimes challenging situations. Some fundamental familiarity with GAAP is a huge plus for assisting with daily bookkeeping chores while on the road. Valid driver’s license required.

Athletic Trainer Interns
A unique opportunity for an intern to work with the largest team size imaginable! The athletic trainer interns work under the supervision of the head athletic trainer and supervises the care of student athletes competing in the Jersey Surf ensemble. The athletic trainer interns are responsible to assist in the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries within the organization’s program. Primary responsibilities include prevention of athletic injuries and illness, evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries, providing counseling to participating performers, administrative duties, assisting with coordination of scheduling, record keeping and documentation, working with head trainer, doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver care to performers. Coursework toward degree in appropriate area of specialization with some prior experience preferred. Valid driver’s license required as there may be a need for trainer/intern to accompany/transport student to a local medical facility in non-emergency situations while on tour.

About the 2016 Jersey Surf Internship Opportunities

DATES: Summer session positions are from June to mid August 2016 (start and end dates are flexible based on schedule of candidate).

LOCATION: Internships may begin at the Jersey Surf corporate headquarters in West Berlin, NJ although the majority of the responsibilities will be on the road with the 2016 touring corps.

REQUIREMENTS: Minimum one year of college coursework or related experience, or as otherwise noted on individual positions.

HOURS: Summer session internships are full-time, around-the-clock once the tour departs from our home base of operations in June until our return on August 14, 2016. Some internships may be extended a few days thereafter to assist with post-tour activities.

SUPERVISION: Interns will report to assigned supervisors who are a part of the Jersey Surf administrative staff. Interns will have the opportunity to interact with and be mentored by senior-level staff members. Periodic evaluations of intern performance will be made by their supervisors in addition to an exit interview which is conducted at the end of the specified internship period.

COMPENSATION: Internships offer tremendous experience in a variety of areas of interest to prospective candidates. Although there is no cash stipend available and the internships are strictly limited to volunteers, all travel and meal expenses on the 2016 Drum Corps International Tour are included, as are credentials to gain access to all events.

HOUSING: Prior to departing for the tour, the corps will be housed in a variety of locations throughout the greater Philadelphia area. Some assistance may be available with regard to housing for interns from outside of the immediate area prior to our departure for Spring Training and the 2016 Drum Corps International Tour. Once on tour, the interns will be housed with the administrative and instructional staff at various housing locations. Transportation to and from the tour will be the responsibility of the intern. During the tour, interns will ride the staff bus or in other vehicles as necessary, at the sole discretion of corps administration.
