Jersey Surf, Inc. is extraordinarily pleased to announce a creative collaboration with the nationally recognized Appel Farm Arts & Music Campus. Through the partnership, Jersey Surf and Appel Farm will work together to develop creative programs centered around the rapidly expanding world of “marching music performing arts,” with each entity contributing its unique experience, best practices, and perspective to the benefit of aspiring young musicians and color guard/dance performers from around the region.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to work with the phenomenal staff of Appel Farm to develop interesting, fun, creative and appropriately challenging programming intended to inspire and reward young performers with the desire to expand their educational experiences,” says Bob Jacobs, Executive Director of Jersey Surf. “We have tremendous respect for the legacy of excellence which Appel Farm has created and are thrilled to have the opportunity to share ideas as we work to expand our programs and serve an even greater number of outstanding young people.”
“It is with honor and delight that Appel Farm welcomes the opportunity to work with our friends from Jersey Surf. Over the past three decades, the group has grown to serve thousands of students from throughout our region, across the country and around the world,” comments Appel Farm Executive Director Cori Solomon. “Having the opportunity to share best practices and create new programs in this space is a great strategic fit for both of us, and we’re really looking forward to learning from each other as we create new opportunities for participants in our respective programs to grow and thrive.”
The first program in development under the new collaboration is a 2-week “Color Guard Camp Intensive,” designed to provide campers with robust training in areas of dance, color guard equipment skills, integration of movement with equipment, artistic and creative expression, team-building, uniformity of technique, and more.
“The Color Guard Camp Intensive will provide aspiring and established middle school andhigh school color guard performers with the opportunity to develop performance skills which will not only enable them to excel with their respective scholastic programs, but will also build self-confidence in a relaxed, fun, and community-focused environment,” added Appel Farm Programs & Creativity Director Julia Weekes. “The Color Guard performers will have the benefit of world class professional instruction from passionate designers, educators, and performers at the top of their craft in international marching arts competition. They’ll also enjoy all of the great things which come with our outstanding overnight camp environment, including opportunities each evening for performances, campfires, scavenger hunts, concerts and more.”
