Jersey Surf is pleased to announce that the 2014 recipient of the Doris Butler Memorial Scholarship is Jasmin Guevara. This award is presented to a veteran member of the organization who displays a good work ethic and dedication to the corps. It is presented by the family of the late Doris Butler, mother of long-time Surf volunteer, Terri Ives, and grandmother of 2005 to 2007 Jersey Surf color guard member, Amy Cylinder.

Jasmin just completed her second year as a member of the Front Ensemble. She worked three jobs to fund her tour fees while also funding her college education. She finds Jersey Surf a safe haven away from academic struggles, personal issues and health challenges. Her experiences in the corps have completely changed her perception of herself and her abilities. According to Jasmin, the Jersey Surf provides her with an outstanding source of motivation and encouragement. She says being a performer has empowered her and given her the confidence she needs to participate at a higher level in the world around her. Jasmin says that no matter what path she chooses in life, she will always be a part of the marching arts community and to help do for others what Jersey Surf has done for her.
