First-Ever “Drum Jawn!” Event Brings Together Community of Music-Makers

Jersey Surf partners with area educators to “Share the Love” of percussion & drumming

WEST BERLIN, NJ – April 17, 2023 – Drummers and would-be drummers of all ages and experience levels are invited to take part in a free event designed to promote the positive attributes of music-making at the first-ever “Drum Jawn!” event, slated for Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 10AM to 1PM at the Charter School of New Castle, Delaware.

The event, produced in partnership between The Jersey Surf World Class Drum Corps along with  Imperial Dynasty Arts Programs and J.K. Percussion & Arts, will feature the public debut of The Jersey Surf’s innovative portable classroom facility – The Mobile Music Lab.

“We’ve created a free event for a wide-ranging community of aspiring or established percussionists and students in our region to come together for a few hours of percussion-community fellowship and music-making,” said Devin Fletcher, president of Imperial Dynasty Arts Programs. “Regardless of age or experience level, we are looking forward to bringing people to this event to drum together with positive vibes in a relaxed atmosphere, while meeting others who share their interest and passion for drumming.”

The event, which will feature demonstrations from a variety of percussion educators spanning several genres and disciplines, will include free demonstrations, free group instruction, facilitated drum circles, “Chop-Builder” pro tips, vendors, surprise guests and more!

The Drum Jawn! is the first event in what organizers hope will be a series of similar events throughout the year and into the future.

“The drumming community in our region runs the gamut from beginners on classroom instruments to college music majors to orchestral players in the world’s finest symphonies; from marching percussionists to amateur and professional rock and roll, jazz, worship and studio musicians,” said Rich Klimowicz, director of operations for The Jersey Surf. “The point of this event is simply to celebrate the fun and communal aspects of drumming and to create an excuse to come together for a few hours to put some positive energy into the world.”

Event organizers added, “Even if your ‘drumming career’ consists of nothing more than jamming out with a pair of pencils on your kitchen table, this free event is open to you and the entire family!”
