Preparing for the rigors of the Drum Corps International Summer Tour can be a daunting task, particularly for World Class performers new to the competitive drum corps activity.
With the input and direction of the Surf’s team of Licensed Athletic Trainers, the personal training and physical conditioning professionals at the Mt. Laurel, NJ-based ProSwim Fitness have created a “wet and dry” training program for Surf members. The engaging and exciting program is designed to create high-energy and intense workouts during and between winter/spring rehearsal camps with the goal of increasing stamina and general health and wellness while also reducing injuries.
Last season, the Surf saw a remarkable decline in early-season visits to the trainer’s table and emergency room, due in large part to the commitment made by corps members to make their pre-season health and wellness a major priority. With the additional tools provided by this year’s “#GetWetGetFit Dry Edition, Season 2,” corps members can exercise along with the Surf conditioning team from the comfort and convenience of their dorm room, bedroom or gym.
“Our focus on the wellness and overall quality of experience of Surf performing members, staff and volunteers continues to intensify and expand,” said Executive Director Bob Jacobs. “Our ability to use the natatorium facilities at our housing site during camp weekends for our customized aqua-fitness program and the creation of our new highly-portable series of workout videos are motivating our team members to arrive at spring training this year in what would normally be mid-season shape for us. We are grateful to our media production team and our training partners to make this project a World Class program offering.
