Sandy Relief Project Update

Jersey Surf Food Truck Deployment / #NJSandy Relief Project Update:

The deployment of the Jersey Surf’s mobile kitchen truck as a part of the massive storm relief effort in our region has been delayed, according to Jersey Surf Executive Director Bob Jacobs.

“We are awaiting a revised plan from emergency management and disaster relief officials,” Jacobs said. “In the wake of the storm, the commencement of remarkable relief efforts and subsequent snowfall which occurred this week, we are awaiting further instructions as to how our truck can be used to serve the greatest number of people as a part of this massive recovery and restoration program. We certainly don’t want to add to the confusion as assistance pours into the area.”

While awaiting further direction, the Jersey Surf has joined with its longtime housing partner the Camden County Technical School to stockpile donations of food, personal items and cleaning supplies for the storm-ravaged region. Those attending the Surf’s kickoff audition weekend camp November 16-18 are strongly encouraged to bring nonperishable food items and other supplies for collection at the school. Distribution of donated items is being coordinated with the Salvation Army.

The corps has set the goal of contributing at least 500 items to this project. Friends of the corps are invited to stop by to drop off donations, and to get an early season dose of drum corps as the Surf begins work on its 2013 “Soul Surfing” program. The first public “show-and-tell” performance of the year will take place on Sunday 11/18 at 2PM in the school’s gymnasium.

The corps is also working on a plan to mobilize the food truck to provide Thanksgiving Dinners to those displaced by the storm. The effort would require donations and volunteer commitments. Additional information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
