As Auditions Wind Down, Excitement Heats Up For 2019 Corps and Staff

The Jersey Surf’s January rehearsal camp was the most heavily attended camp of the young 2019 season. Brass and percussion auditionees continued to learn fundamental techniques in music and movement from Jersey Surf staff in addition to rehearsing selections from the 2019 yet-to-be-announced musical program. Having completed initial rounds of auditions in November and December, color guard candidates aren’t in attendance during the winter months as their focus centers on participation in various scholastic and independent winter guard activities.

“This camp weekend was fantastic,” said Chris DeVona, Director of Brass Education. “The hornline showed up well-prepared to play this weekend, and they’re continuing to set a promising new precedent for the 2019 season.”

Brad Schoener, Surf’s Percussion Education Director, echoed DeVona’s excitement. “The percussion section had a strong weekend and saw many new faces this camp as we enter the final stage of the audition process. The staff is visibly enthusiastic about getting to work with a group of such highly motivated individuals. The tone of the season has been set in a very positive, empowering, and exciting direction.”

The Jersey Surf educational team is narrowing down the final selections of the 2019 corps membership. As of this writing, limited openings remain in the trumpet, low brass, and color guard sections. Register to audition now before all spots are filled!
