FAQs

What is Jersey Surf HyperCorps?

Inspired by the excellence which is synonymous with the drum corps art form, HyperCorps is a new, experimental, hybrid ensemble of musicians and performers which will perform this summer at a variety of performance venues in the greater Delaware Valley area and beyond.

Drawing on 35 years of experience as a touring performance ensemble, this all-new initiative opens doors for those who want to push their musical boundaries without the time and financial commitment of a full summer tour. With less rigorous rehearsal schedules and reduced costs, HyperCorps offers an exciting way for musicians and color guard enthusiasts to experience the thrill of high-level performance while balancing other personal, employment and academic commitments.

How do I join or get additional information?

The first step to joining is to register in our online database, Bandwindow, by filling out the form requesting information. Once you do, you will be on our texting (or emailing) list for any announcements we have prior to or between rehearsals.

Can I send in a video?

Arrangements for video submissions will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact corps administration for assistance.

I just started learning to play/spin because I want to perform, but I’m not very good yet.  What should I do?

Come visit with us anyway! Most of our staff are professional educators, and you will learn a lot even from one rehearsal event. Even if you don’t make the section of your choice on the first try or if you have no intention of returning, it will be great experience and will help to prepare you for other pursuits.

How many rehearsals am I allowed to miss?

Everyone in the ensemble is expected to be at every rehearsal their section is scheduled to attend. It is your responsibility to make your instructors aware of your conflicts as soon as you know about them so that we can work together to ensure the success of everyone involved.

How much does it cost?

The cost to participate is outlined under the FEES tab. Our fees are comprised from the following components:

  • Registration Fee (paid one time by everyone)
  • Rehearsal (Camp) Fees (for each rehearsal event you attend) — discount if paid prior by Monday before rehearsal date.
  • Tuition, Uniform & Participation Fee — includes a lot of stuff! See FEES tab for a detailed outline.

Are there ways to reduce my tuition, participation fee, etc.?

There are a number of ways to offset your fees. Along with getting sponsors through our member sponsorship program, you will be able to take advantage of multiple fundraising opportunities. We will discuss those opportunities in detail at rehearsal as they become available throughout the season.

Will a move-in be required for “Spring Training?”

At the present time, all rehearsal activities are being planned for weekends only. There will be no extended Spring Training requirement.

Can my parents stay at a rehearsal event?

Absolutely! Parents are always invited and encouraged to come and we always have something fun to do which will benefit from extra pairs of hands. Please contact us via email at “info@jerseysurf.org” to discuss specifics.

Jersey Surf administrators and seasoned volunteers will be at every rehearsal event to answer any questions your parents may have. There are many volunteer opportunities in which your parents can take part which are an enormous help to us each time we come together. We are also happy to recommend local hotel accommodations for those from out of town.
