On Sunday, October 6th alumni members of the Board of Directors and the administrative staff held a Town Hall meeting for alumni, friends, and family of the Jersey Surf.
Assistant Corps Director STEPHANIE DUTCHER (hornline 2008 – 2001), and Board of Directors members JULIE HILL (color guard 2007 – 2009), GEOFF MARTIN (drumline 2000 – 2001), and TELLY OUSOULJOGLOU (drumline 2004 – 2006) shared the insights they’ve gained about the corps through their increased involvement “behind the scenes.” The presenters celebrated the competitive success of the past year while also acknowledging the ever present challenges of running a drum corps in the 21st century.
The presentation concluded with a list of ways supporters of the corps can get involved to help take the quality of experiences the Jersey Surf gives its members to the next level. Immediately, the corps is looking for volunteers:
- to help recruit at local marching band shows
- for the November audition camp (date TBA)
- to serve dinner to the TOB All-Star Marching Band on Wednesday, November 27.
Other ongoing ways to help the corps reach new heights include:
- securing housing sites for tour
- serving the corps as a paid contractor (e.g. medical/wellness staff, bookkeeping, CDL-drivers, non-CDL drivers)
- sharing entrepreneurial, corporate, or professional expertise and skills with the business side of the corps
- donating “stuff” we need to operate or can sell/raffle as fundraisers
- donating miles or credit card points
- donating money, gift cards, and merchandise
