More than 500 Flags Will Fly This Weekend in Surf-Sponsored Event

Over Memorial Day weekend 2013, the expansive front lawn of the sprawling Camden County Technical School Gloucester Township Campus in Sicklerville, NJ will be transformed into a sea of red, white and blue as more than 600 American flags are displayed in tribute to all who have sacrificed – and who continue to sacrifice – to make the United States the greatest country in the world.

The second “We the People” event, sponsored by the nationally-recognized Jersey Surf World Class Drum and Bugle Corps, will provide a stunning display of patriotism along with guest speakers, area dignitaries, performances by the Jersey Surf and special guests and an opportunity for members of the community to come together to commemorate the Memorial Day holiday.

The ceremony will get underway at 2PM on Monday, with the flag display scheduled to be open to the public at 12 noon on Saturday. Buglers from the Jersey Surf will perform “echo taps” on Saturday and Sunday evening at dusk.“Although today’s drum and bugle corps are highly specialized touring performing arts ensembles, we trace our roots back to the battlefield,” said Jersey Surf Executive Director and CEO Bob Jacobs. “The Camden County Technical School has hosted our rehearsals for the past 19 years, and we are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to help commemorate Memorial Day on this campus through our involvement with the ‘We the People’ project. We hope this will be an annual event which will continue to grow in the years to come.”The flag display and Monday’s ceremony are free and open to the public.

The 3’x5’ flags are mounted on 8’ aluminum poles and may be purchased at the school during the weekend and prior to the event for $39.00. Proceeds benefit the Jersey Surf and other area charities. For additional information, visit www.WeThePeopleFlags.org or call 856-753-DRUM (3786).
